The Scarf Necklace: how to wear it
Part textile, part jewellery — a scarf necklace drapes like fabric and finishes like a piece. It's the category we're known for, and the one most people are meeting for the first time.
First — what is a scarf necklace?
A scarf necklace joins soft fabric — silk-feel cord, crochet, woven textile — with the things a necklace is made of: beads, stones, pendants, tassels. The fabric carries the weight, so it sits lightly and moves with you; the beadwork gives it the finish of jewellery. Each of ours is made once in our Auckland studio and never repeated, which means the one around your neck is genuinely the only one anywhere.
Five ways to wear one
1. As the outfit's centre
The simplest way is the best one: a plain knit or tee in a quiet colour, and the necklace does the talking. Something like the Bohemian Blue Scarf Necklace wants nothing competing with it — let the crochet flowers be the whole story.
2. Long and loose with a V-neck
Worn at full length over a V-neck or open collar, the fabric falls in a soft line that flatters the way a long pendant does — without the cold weight of a chain. The Sun Glow Statement Tassel Necklace drapes this way beautifully, tassel ending just where a third button would be.
3. Knotted once, worn short
Because the body is fabric, you can shorten it with a single loose knot — something no rigid necklace lets you do. Knotted high, a piece like the Blue Scarf Necklace with Natural Stone Pendant sits like a collar; untied, it's back to a long line. One piece, two silhouettes.
4. Over a collared shirt or blazer
Scarf necklaces earn their keep at work. Over a crisp shirt or under a blazer's lapels, the Natural Mother of Pearl Square Bead Necklace reads as polish, not ornament — textile against tailoring is a quiet, deliberate contrast.
5. As the travelling piece
Fabric doesn't tangle, doesn't dig, and weighs almost nothing — which makes a scarf necklace the piece that goes in the carry-on. The Vintage Floral Medallion Scarf Necklace rolls up the size of a plum and shakes out ready to wear. Pieces with floral work, like the Floral Crochet Scarf Necklace, travel just as kindly.
A note on care
Treat the fabric the way you'd treat a fine scarf: jewellery goes on last — after perfume, lotion, and hairspray — and comes off before water. Stored flat or loosely rolled in its pouch, the textile keeps its drape for years. The longer version lives in our care guide, and every piece's page carries its own care line.
